Difference Between Fundamental Niche and Realized Niche
The significant difference between fundamental and realized niche indicates that the fundamental niche is the biological habitat of a species, where it can simply acquire food for its energy provisions and can breed and propagate without the worry of predators. In contrast, a realized niche is a subset of a fundamental niche that pressures a species to exist and adjust to the current situation. The phrase niche is acquired from a French term described as a nest. Joseph Grinnell initiated the phrase niche for the first time in 1917 to describe a habitat of a species where it dwells. An individual can define a niche to be complete of all the ecological provisions that permit a species to breed and bring forth offspring, hence surviving and adorning with any undue pressure. A certain niche can sometimes be a fundamental niche or realized niche. A fundamental niche of a species is referred to as the habitat that is biological for it. In contrast, a realized niche results from several aspects, including human actions, predators’ availability, and natural food resources.
